PEMBROKESHIRE College held another successful international evening, recently, when 250 people attended the annual event.
The evening was arranged by the international students and included a buffet of ethnic foods prepared by them. Students from China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, South Africa, Belarus, India and Japan took part, dressing in their national costume and presenting exhibitions about their homeland.
"Pembrokeshire College has around 80 international students from a variety of countries," said the college's international development manager, Bryan Hall.
"During their stay with us, they become a part of the local community and the international evening is their way of sharing their culture with the people who support them during their stay."
As well as international food and displays, the evening provided some lively entertainment, including performances from Chinese and Pakistani students, who sang popular songs from their country.
Local belly dancing instructor, Guinevere Clark, and her team also gave a colourful and vibrant display of belly dancing. Participation was encouraged and many members of the audience joined in.
The evening concluded with some Pakistani Bhanghara dancing.
"Many of our international students enjoy staying with a host family during their time at Pembrokeshire College," Bryan Hall said. "This gives them experience of living with a British family and a chance to improve their English."
Anyone who would like to find out more about what becoming a host family involves, should contact the international office on 01437 753113.
