MR N. JENKINS CASTLEMORRIS The funeral took place on March 11th of Mr Norman Jenkins, who died on March 7th, aged 77. Norman was born in Castlemorris and in his younger days was known to many as Norman the Green. He remained in Castlemorris, spending all his working life at Penfeidr. He was recently predeceased by his wife Una, to whom he had been married for 53 years. He loved to spend time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called him Gooby. He was a kind and generous man who will be dearly missed. He leaves to mourn: Gilbert and Susan, Denis and Cathy (sons and daughters-in-law); June and Charles (daughter and son-in-law); Stasia and Alan (daughter and partner); Karen, Nicci and Maria, Anthony, Chris and Heledd, Claire and Daniel, Becky and Gareth (grandchildren); Mike, Joe, Dawn, James and Alice (their wives and partners); Kirsten, Sean and Kyle, Caitlin, Tomas, Carys and Catrin, Shaun and Ioan (great-grandchildren); together with his brother John and family members too numerous to mention. The service at The Chapel of Rest, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, was conducted by Rev Emlyn Jones. The bearers were Eric Lewis, Ronald and Harries Jenkins (nephews) and Alan Richards (friend and neighbour). There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for the Noah's Ark Appeal being received by HSBC Bank, Fishguard.

MR H. G. COUZENS HAVERFORDWEST The funeral took place on February 24th at Tiers Cross Chapel, with interment at Tiers Cross Cemetery, of Mr Herbert Gwynne Couzens, of Bellmoor Farm, Portfield Gate, Haverfordwest. He was 82 and died at Withybush Hospital on February 19th after a three-week stay. Mr Couzens had been in beef and sheep farming all his life. Family left to mourn and principal mourners at the funeral were: Beryl Couzens (wife); Pam (daughter); Geoff, Tricia and Gemma (son, his partner and his partner's daughter); Eveline Couzens (sister); Roy and Elaine Couzens, John Couzens, Jane and Hwyel Harries (cousins); Wilfred Richards, Iris Bevan, Sarah Evans (close friends). Rev Colin Foreman officiated at the service. Messrs F. G. Rees and Son, funeral directors, of Portfield Gate, carried out the funeral arrangements.

MRS M. J. LEWIS NARBERTH The death occurred at ward ten, Withybush Hospital, on March 13th, of Mrs Margaret Jane Lewis. She was 96 and was the elder daughter of the late Mr and Mrs D. G. Griffiths, Bletherston, Penffordd. She had lived at Longridge for 22 years and had farmed successfully with her late husband Haydn, before retiring to The Crescent, Narberth, in 1968. She was widowed in 1970 and leaves to mourn her five children, 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and four sisters. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Sara, in 1991, her brother William Griffiths and son-in-law James Williams. She will be remembered for her quiet, unassuming manner, coupled with an inner strength and grace. She will also be remembered for her exceptional needlework, and much of her work remains at St Marys's church, Bletherston, where she was a faithful member before moving to Narberth. Prior to the service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on March 21st, a private service of prayer was conducted by Rev Geoffrey Gwyther at Mr K. Davis' Chapel of Rest, Clynderwen. The bearers were Dewi and Gwyn (sons) and Mansel and Fred (sons-in-law). At Parc Gwyn, the large attendance of family and friends showed the respect and esteem with which Mrs Lewis was held. The service was officiated by Rev Geoffrey Gwyther, and assisted by Nan Warlow and Rev E. Williams (both family friends). An apology for absence was received from Rev Geoffrey Eynon. The bearers were John Williams, Peter Evans, Barrie Beeken, Peter and Mark Lewis and Christine Lewis, with David Williams and Jeffery Evans (grandchildren) distributing the service programmes. Principal mourners were: Dewi and Gwyn Lewis (sons); Gladys Williams, Jean Evans and Gwen Beeken (daughters); Margaret and Marilyn (daughters-in-law); Mansel Evans and Fred Beeken (sons-in-law); John and Eunice, David and Doris, Brian, Derek, Peter, Pat, Judith and Eric, Jeffrey and Elinor, Sandra and Hugh, Peter and Louise, Mark and Bridget, Barrie, Carol and Keith, and Christine (grand-children); Rebbeca, Mathew, Nicola, Jessica (great-grandchildren); Mrs Maude Williams (sister); together with other relatives, friends and neighbours. Unable to attend were: grandchildren Mary, Gwen, Anthony and Desley (Australia), Rosalind, Samanth, Cerwyn and Katrina (New Zealand); Miss Annie Griffiths, Mrs Doris Devan and Mrs Olwen Salmon (sisters). There were family flowers only and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr K. Davies, Clynderwen.

Mrs A. W. Thomas Pembroke The funeral took place on March 17th of Mrs Annie Winifred (Winnie) Thomas, of Elm Cottage, East Back, Pembroke. She was 89. Mrs Thomas was one of the Edwards family of Whitehall Farm, Angle where she was brought up. Prior to her marriage, she nursed at the former Cottage Hospital, Pembroke and during the War at Merrion and Brawdy army camps. In 1959 her husband Stanley died, leaving her to bring up their two sons, Harvey and Peter. Mrs Thomas then worked part-time for many years at the infant clinics in Park Street, Pembroke Dock and East Back. She was a stalwart of the Pembroke Ladies Conservative Association and Pembroke Civic Trust for many years, and a keen member of Pembroke Arts Club and the local Art Appreciation Society. Above all 'Auntie Winnie' loved her family, most of whom are part of the Pembrokeshire farming community. She was grandmother to Laura, Owen and Eleanor. The funeral service at St Mary's, Pembroke was conducted by Rev Roger Jones, assisted by Chancellor Anthony Williams. The bearers were David and Tom Kenniford, John Davies, Hugh Burnard, Martin Evans and Anthony Davies. The principal mourners were: Peter and Gaynor, Harvey and Sue, Laura, Owen and Eleanor. There were family flowers only but donations in lieu to Diabetes UK may be sent to John Roberts and son, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock.

MRS M. R. REES HAVERFORDWEST The funeral took place recently of Mrs Mary Rowena Rees (known as Rowena), of Merlin House, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest. She was 84 and died on March 16th at Merlin House. A native of Ammanford, she had lived in Haverfordwest for 53 years. Mrs Rees was a housewife, married to Alfred Owen Rees. She was a member of The Friends of Withybush Hospital for many years. She lived for her family and loved to laugh. Her other interests were church and singing and reciting rhymes. Family left to mourn are daughter Umelda Havard, granddaughter Jane and husband Wayne, grandson Mark and wife Tanya, great-grandchildren Rhiannon Davies, Kayleigh and Jack Havard, sister Linda and brother-in-law Alcwyn Rees. The funeral took place on March 24th, with a service at the Emmanuel Christian Centre, Merlins Bridge, followed by interment at City Road Cemetery. Officiating was Rev John Welsby. The bearers were Lyndon Frayling, Colin Williams, Martin Thomas, Graham Harries. The principal mourners were daughter Umelda; granddaughter Jane and husband Wayne; grandson Mark and wife Tanya; great-grandchildren Rhiannon, Kayleigh and Jack; Orpha Davies (niece), Rhys and June Bateman (nephew and wife). Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to Mr L. Frayling, 25 Fleming Crescent, Haverfordwest or the Activities Group of Merlins House Residential Home. Roy Folland and Son, funeral directors, Haverfordwest, carried out the funeral arrangements.

MR R. O. PHILLIPS TAVERNSPITE The funeral took place recently, of Mr Ronald Oswald Phillips, known to many as Ossie, of Mountain Farm, Tavernspite. Aged 83, he died on March 19th at Withybush Hospital. Predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Eileen, and son Hugh, he leaves to mourn daughters Sheila and Anne, son Richard and their families. A large gathering of friends joined the family at the funeral service in Parc Gwyn Crematorium, conducted by Canon Geoffrey Morris. There followed a short family service and interment of ashes at St Peter's Church, Lampeter Velfrey. Born in West Williamston, Ossie served in the Royal Air Force during World War Two and, following demob, began farming in south Pembrokeshire. He moved to Mountain Farm in 1960 and continued dairy farming until retirement eight years ago. Throughout his life Ossie made many friends and retained strong ties with the Carew and Cresselly area, where he enjoyed visiting and reminiscing with old friends. He was a faithful and active member of St Peter's, Lampeter Velfrey. His life revolved around his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-granddaughters, his friends and the local community. Principal mourners were: Sheila and Aubrey Hilling, Anne and John Kinnersley (daughters and sons-in-law); Richard and Pearl Phillips (son and daughter-in-law); Jane, Michael, Glyn, Jeanette, Barry, Kate, Philip, Jack, Sarah, Daz, Kathryn and Jay (grandchildren and partners); Dennis Bowen (close friend), Peter, Lou, Sheila and Chris (brother and sisters in law); Pauline, Peter and Leslie (nieces and nephew); Malcolm, Hugh and Marion (cousins). MRS J. A. LOVERING HAVERFORDWEST The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium last Wednesday, of Mrs Joyce Alma Lovering, of 18 Castle High, Haverfordwest, who died on March 22nd at Withybush Hospital, after a seven-month stay. She was 80. Rev Richard Laws officiated at the ceremony. Mrs Lovering was a native of Hillingdon, Middlesex and her main interest was her family. Family left to mourn are Les (husband); Jill and Ron (daughter and son-in-law); James and Alison (grandson and girlfriend); Peggy and Eva (sisters). Toni and Bill, Jane and Paul, Clive, Dennis and Nichola, Ann and Richard (nieces and nephews); Trader, Heather, Piers and Peter, Ken and Diane, Pat, Carol and Tammy, Dawn and Wendy, Mammie and Christine (friends and neighbours). Principal mourners were Les (husband); Jill and Ron (daughter-in-law and son-in-law); James and Alison (grandson and girlfriend); Peggy and Eva (sisters) and nieces and nephews and friends and neighbours. Unable to attend were Eddy (brother-in-law); Colin and June (nephew and partner); Julie (niece), Byron (neighbour). There were family flowers only with donations for the RNLI, c/o Mr L. R. Lovering, 18 Castle High, Haverfordwest. Roy Folland and Son carried out the funeral arrangements.

MRS M. G. EVANS CRYMYCH (formerly of Mynachlogddu) The death occurred of Mrs Margaret Gwyneth Evans (Maggie), of 9 Maes Meigan, Crymych, and formerly of Clyn, Mynachlogddu, on February 7th aged 78. She was born in Mynachlogddu, the daughter of the late Evan Rees John, and Mary John, of Caermeini-Isaf, Mynachlogddu, and sister of Betty and the late Benjamin and Eirian. Aged 15, she went to work with her family at Tylorstown, Rhondda, an area very close to her heart. Following the sudden death of her sister Eirian aged 19, she came home to work on the family farm at Caermeini-Isaf, where she took over the local milk round. In 1950, she married Trefor at Bethel, Mynachlogddu and they raised six children - Dailwen, Gwyn, Teifion, Meinir, Barbara and Margaret, at Clyn, Mynachlogddu. She was mother-in-law to John, Maggie, Philip, Geraint and Dylan; grandmother to Gwyneth, Hefin, Bethan, Christopher, Jonathan, Tracey, Sonya, Tanya, Debbie, Michael, Carina, Carwyn, Nerys, Mari, Caryl and Lowri and great-grandmother to Llyr, Gethin, Cerys, Jamie and Jake (Malta) and Megan (Cardiff). She moved to Crymych in 1995, where she had a happy life, until the sudden death of her son, Gwyn, in November 2001, which was a tremendous shock to her. Her funeral was held on February 12th with a private service at the house, and public service at Bethel, Mynachlogddu, where the service was officiated by her minister, Rev Eirian Wyn Lewis. Also present were Rev Llinos Mai Gordon, Maenclochog, Desmond Davies, Carmarthen and Mr Eric John, Mynachlogddu. Apologies were received from Rev Kevin Davies, Saron, Llangeler and Rev John Lewis, Eglwyswrw. The chapel was full to capacity, a testimony to her popularity. Verses written by Mr and Mrs J. Francis, Rhyd-ddn, Blaenffos, were read by Debbie Rodgers (granddaughter). Mrs Tanya Horwood, Cardiff (granddaughter) also read a poem of her own work. Principal mourners were: Trevor (husband); Dailwen, John, Meinir, Philip, Barbara, Geraint, Margaret, Dylan (daughters and sons-in-law); Teifion (son); Gwyneth, Iwan, Hefin, Bethan, Colin, Tanya, Gareth, Debbie, Daniel, Michael, Chrissie, Sam, Lois, Christopher, Tracey, Carina, Carwyn and Nerys (grandchildren, husbands, partners); Betty (sister); Leslie, Carmen, Desmond, Iona, Eirian, Emma, Robert, Hywel, Alan, Christopher, Vicky (nieces, nephews, wife and children). Mrs Ann Davies (Cardigan), Mrs Susan Rees (Burry Port), Mr Kenneth Hart, Mr Colin Hart, Mr John Rowlands, Mr and Mrs H. Parri-Roberts, Mrs Gwen Morgan (Letterston), close relatives; along with neighbours and friends. Unable to attend were Aggie (Malta, daughter-in-law); mark, Sonya (Malta - granddaughter and husband); Jonathan, Gwynmar (grandson); Susan (Hefin's partner), Ieuan, Valerie (niece and nephew); Rev Peter Harries Davies (close relative). Bearers at the house were John Vaughan, Philip Simpson, Geraint Evans and Dylan Griffiths (sons-in-law); and at the chapel Hywel John, John Davies (Mynachlogddu), Len James, Ronnie Evans, Terry Davies and Alan Brace (Crymych). There were immediate family flowers only, with donations in lieu being received by Mr H. Parri-Roberts, towards the MS Centre, Cardigan. The organist was Mrs Rhian Davies and Mr Eric John led the congregation in the hymns.

MR T. J. PHILLIPS HAVERFORDWEST The funeral took place on Monday, April 4th, of Mr Thomas John (Jack) Phillips of Barn Farm, Old Hakin Road, Haverfordwest. Mr Phillips died on Sunday, March 27th, at Withybush Hospital, aged 82. He had been admitted to hospital three weeks before. Mr Phillips was born in Robeston Wathen. He was born into a farming family, which had a direct influence on the path which his life led. Mr Phillips farmed with his father, Benjamin at Robeston, at Cotts Farm, Martletwy, and at Shoals Hook Farm, Haverford west. Involvement in Haver-fordwest YFC led him to meet and later marry Iris Morgan in 1952, when the couple moved to Barn Farm, Old Hakin Road. Mr Phillips dedicated his whole life to the farm. Indeed, he was still very active on the farm until only a few years ago. Predeceased by his wife Iris eight years ago, he leaves to mourn Clive (son); Keith (son); Beverley (daughter); Tom and James (grandsons); Becky (daughter-in-law); Becky, Kathleen and Mary (sisters). The funeral took place at St Peter's Church, Johnston, followed by interment at Pope Hill Cemetery. The large attendance at the funeral was indicative of the respect felt for Mr Phillips within the local farming community. Rev D. Wight conducted the service. The bearers were Mr C. Thomas, Mr P. Clarke, Mr H. Roch and Mr P. Rabaiotti (neighbours). Floral tributes were from the family only, with donations in lieu to ward 12, Withybush Hospital. The funeral arrangements were made by Mr R. Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

MR K.COLE WISEMAN'S BRIDGE The funeral took place recently of Mr Keith Cole of Pleasant Valley, Wiseman's Bridge, who died at his home, following a short illness, on March 14th. A native of Amroth, Mr Cole married his teenage sweetheart Jean in 1960. They settled in Wiseman's Bridge and raised four children. A devoted family man and keen sportsman, Mr Cole will be remembered by many for the skills he displayed while playing football for Pembroke Boro', St Clears and Carmarthen, and both football and cricket for Carew and Kilgetty. He also enjoyed outdoor life, especially walking on the beach with his wife and the dogs. A keen photographer, who also enjoyed watersports, he loved being in the company of his family and friends. Mr Cole is survived by his wife Jean, children Penny, Paul, Sarah and Christopher and eight grandchildren. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 22nd, at St Issell's Church, Saundersfoot, and was followed by interment. Canon Michael Butler officiated. The bearers were Teddy and Raymond Williams, John (Davo) Davies and Roger Evans (friends). There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu being made to Saundersfoot Medical Centre or ward ten, Withybush Hospital, c/o the funeral directors, W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd, The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby.

MR D. HARDING-JONES WISEMAN'S BRIDGE The funeral took place on Monday, of Mr David Harding-Jones FRCS, of Vermont, Wiseman's Bridge. A respected surgeon, wise counsellor and loyal friend, he died at his home on Easter Day, following a short and sudden illness. He was 68. He is survived by his wife June, sons Andrew, Ian and Neil, daughters Alison and Fiona and grandchildren Bethan, Thomas, Iestyn, Ella and wee Angus. The funeral service was held at St Issell's Church, Saundersfoot. There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu being made to St Issell's Church, Saundersfoot, c/o the funeral directors, W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd, The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby.

MISS C. M. JENKINS MERLINS BRIDGE Miss Carol Madeleine Jenkins, of 9 Firtree Close, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest, died at Withybush Hospital, after a three-week stay, on March 11th. She was 45. Miss Jenkins was a native of Martletwy, but had lived in Haverfordwest for 28 years. She spent many years working on various farms, but most recently worked assisting the elderly with their daily routines. Carol's main interests were horse riding, rambling (going nutting) and picking wild flowers. She loved all her animals, especially her beloved dog Ben, who died in a house fire. She also collected a number of ornamental frogs. She leaves to mourn: Emma and Brian (daughter and son-in-law); Elsie (mother); George (fiance); Margaret and Martin (sister and partner); Susan (sister); Peter and Ann, Brian Kirsty (brothers and sisters-in-law); and nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends, too numerous to mention. The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn, Narberth, on March 18th, and was officiated by her son-in-law, Brian. Bearers were George (fiance), Peter, Brian (brothers) and Mark (nephew). The funeral director was Hywel Evans.

MRS L. WILLIAMS HAVERFORDWEST Mrs Lilian Rose Elizabeth Gooch Williams, of 28 Slade Park, Slade Lane, Haverfordwest, died after a six-week stay at Withybush Hospital, on March 12th. She was 92. Mrs Williams was a native of Pakefield, Suffolk, and her main interests were her family and friends. Lilian, predeceased by her husband, Claud Seymour Williams, on March 17th, 1963, her daughter, Barbara Bridge, in March 1968, and her son Keith Williams in March 2005, leaves to mourn grandchildren, great grandchildren and nephews. The funeral service was held on March 22nd, at St David's Church, Prendergast, followed by interment at City Road Cemetery, Haverfordwest, and was conducted by Canon Geoffrey Gwyther. Bearers were Harry Jones, David Isaac, Alan Gordon and Trevor Harries. There were family flowers only, with donations in her memory to The Paul Sartori Foundation, c/o the treasurer, 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

MR D. P. LLOYD MILFORD HAVEN The funeral took place of Mr Douglas Phillip Lloyd, of 46 Precelly Place, Milford Haven, who died at home on March 19th, aged 54. Mr Lloyd was a native of Cardigan, but had lived in Milford for the past 33 years. He had been in the Merchant Navy and last year had started his own business in painting. The service was held at St Francis RC Church, followed by interment at Milford Cemetery. The officiating minister was Father Harding. Family left to mourn are: Tina (wife); Amanda, Jennifer and Nicola (daughters); Valerie and Phil (daughter and son-in-law); Jenna, Toni, Ben, Tom and Ryan (grandchildren); Jackie and Don Griffiths (sister and brother-in-law). The bearers were Philip Clay (son-in-law), Don Griffiths (brother-in-law), Mathew Collins (nephew), Michael Cooper (brother-in-law), Darryl Jones and Ken Griffiths. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

MRS J. OWEN FISHGUARD The funeral took place on Tuesday, March 29th, of Mrs Jemima Owen (Mima) of 17 Clive Road, Fishguard, who died at the Pater Close Ward of South Pembrokeshire Hospital, Pembroke Dock, on Monday, March 21st. She was 88. A short service was held at her home. Rev Geoffrey Eynon, past minister Rev William Owen, and Father Harding Rees, who were family friends, officiated at the service, The following ministers were also present at the house, Rev Menna Brown, Rev John Roberts, Emlyn Jones and Dr Rev Stanley John. Apologies were received from Rev Carl Williams who was unable to attend. She will be sadly missed and remembered for her wicked smile and her wit, also for her fantastic memories and stories of the past. The burial service was held at Pentowr Cemetery, where she was laid to rest with her husband who passed away 37 years previously. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Mrs Eunice O'Hara; son, Mr Leslie Owen; son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Mr Pat O'Hara and Mrs Denise Owen. Close to her heart also were the grandchildren Sian and Huw, who she was very proud of, also Vicki and Gary. The bearers were the following family friends, Andrew Watts, Phillip Davies, Roy Morris, Merfyn Williams, Denzil Watts and, not least, Robert Slee. There were family flowers only. Donations to the family at 17 Clive Road, who will divide the donations between ward ten and the Pater Close Ward at South Pembrokeshire Hospital.

MR W. P. JONES ST DAVIDS The death occurred on Monday, March 21st, at the Meadows Nursing Home, Johnston, of William Perkin Jones, of 2 St Nons Close, St Davids. Perkin was born and brought up at Treleddin Farm, St Davids, and continued farming after his father's retirement. With his wife Enid, they stayed at Treleddin for eight years and then moved to Lower Treginnis and remained there with their two children, Robert and Sylvia for 19 years. Perkin was a member of the St David's Lifeboat crew, before he was married and during the war years. He completed many sponsored walks for charity, including Kidney Research and the Diabetic Association. He leaves to mourn his wife Enid; Sylvia and Bira (daughter and son-in-law); Robert and Barbara (son and daughter-in-law); Michael and Donna (grandson and wife); Julian and Niki (grandsons); Karen (granddaughter); together with nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. The funeral service held at Tabernacle chapel, St Davids, on Saturday, March 26th, was conducted by Mr John Evans, assisted by Rev Wyn Evans, Dean of St David's Cathedral. This was followed by burial in St David's Cemetery, where the bearers were his son Robert and grandsons Michael, Julian and Niki. Donations to his memory for the Diabetic Association may be sent to W. G. Bernard Mathias, funeral directors, 62 New Street, St Davids.
