Dear Editor, - Amid all the anxiety about the 120 kilometre high pressure Transco pipeline from Milford Haven to Neath no-one is demanding an answer to the obvious question. Why?
The western end of the national high pressure gas grid at Aberdulais is only ten kilometres from the coast at Baglan and could be linked at a fraction of the cost and hassle.
Where is the joined up thinking? Who is responsible for a sustainable strategy - DTI, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, National Assembly, A. N. Other?
We are talking of major infrastructures which will have a life of 50 years or more.
These projects should not be decided solely on the basis of present ownership of derelict land around the Haven.
At a minimum, we need a serious evaluation of other options, including a safe off-shore transfer facility for LNG tankers in the Bristol Channel.
