Dear Editor, - It is with the gravest concern we learn of the suspension of consultant gynaecologist, Christopher Overton, from Withybush Hospital.

We understand that this is because of his deep concern over the closure of ward two, the gynaecology ward, and the reduction in the total number of beds in Withybush.

This ward is probably the busiest in the hospital after the A&E and ward one. It is used by three consultants, which in itself is unusual. The idea of scattering female patients around the hospital in mixed wards is totally unacceptable.

If the Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust wishes to cut costs, it would be a good idea if it looked at its own tremendously overweight structure and spent its money on doctors, nurses and cleaners, rather than yet more pen pushers. Morale in the medicai and nursing staff is at an all time low.

Mr Overton was brave enough to try to inform us, the public, just what is going on in OUR hospital.

To take such draconian action makes us wonder just what the trust is trying to hide.
