Haverfordwest (120 all out) drew with Carew (99 for 9) Umpires: Dai Morris and John Williams Scorers: Jayne Cole and Sue Phillips

A 6 for 26 spell by canny spinner John Canton helped Carew restrict Haverfordwest to 120 all out at The Racecourse - and although The Town fought back really well after tea it was Carew who held on for the draw to claim the title from their rivals and secure the coveted double of league and Harrison-Allen Bowl winners.

Simon Wood made early inroads into the Haverfordwest batting after they had elected to bat first, removing Andrew Phillips and Paul Luke before a classy 50 (ten fours) from Phil Kirkby rectified the situation as they moved to 79 for 2 before Canton came on and had all the home batsman in trouble.

Only Dai Davies (18) stayed long before he became one of Rob Scourfield's two victims - and Canton did the rest at the other end.

But Carew also found it hard going on a wicket of variable bounce as their off-spinner Clive Tucker reeled off 12 overs whilse picking up 1 for 7, including six maidens.

Phil Kirkby and Matthew Johns grabbed three wickets apiece and at 83 for 8 Carew looked in trouble as Dai Davies took two cracking catches.

But Darren Thomas and Matthew Phillips sensibly batted out the overs to earn the vital maximum draw points and although Thomas was out from the last ball of the match it mattered little because Carew had done enough to deservedly secure the title with two matches left.

Pembroke (137 for 7) drew with Cresselly (215 for 5) Umpires: Alan Hansen and Rob Bellerby Scorer: Dave Richards

Cresselly gained the bulk of the points at Treleet as Pembroke held on for the draw, with openers Julian Arthur and Adam Chandler helping the visitors to secure maximum batting points in an opening stand of 119 before Arthur was stumped by William Davies off Nigel Phillips with nine fours and two sixes in his 68.

Chandler was run out for 65 and a quick 29 by Lyn Richards, allied to 34 from 'Mr Extras', helped Cresselly to 215 for 5, with Phillips and Martin Fletcher claiming a wicket brace apiece.

Pembroke also began well as Matthew Mitchell and Barry Evans put on 54 for the first wicket before the hard-hitting Mitchell was bowled by Richard Harris for 41.

From then on it always seemed a draw was likely once Evans departed for 24 as Harris finished with 3 for 18 from 24 overs and Neil Gregory supported with 2 for 27, Hughie Davies and Fletcher seeing Pembroke to safety.

Hook (120 all out) lost to Narberth (123 for 4) Umpires: David Loosemore and Walter Dash Scorers: Joy James and Idwal Vincent

Hook's hopes of staying in the top echelon received a hammer blow as they lost by six wickets to a confident Narberth side which has done really well all season - and then news filtered through of big wins for fellow basement-battlers Llangwm and Whitland.

Ceri Jones and Wayne Howells led the Narberth attack with 3 for 32 and 3 for 16 respectively, only Mick Haltam (28) and Brennan Lay (20 not out) providing real resistance.

Then Asher Stanford and James Devonald gave Narberth a solid start of 25 before Wayne Howells (37) and Mike Scale (21) eased them towards another win - and Ritchie Adams and Gary Hughes were there as Narberth Won in less than 30 overs.

Lawrenny (164 for 7) lost to Whitland (166 for 1) Umpires: Barry Wood and Mike Harries Scorer: Malcolm Thomas

Whitland gained a vital win at Lawrenny in their battle to secure their first division status. Fine batting by Paul Webb (59 not out) and Paul Davies (48 not out) taking them to a nine-wicket victory after Dave Lee had also done his bit with 26 runs.

Before tea, only Andrew Cole (senior), with 22, and Christian Phillips (32) had looked settled against Kristian Richards, Mark Lee and Matthew Davies - before the Lawrenny tally was boosted from 115 for 7 by an unbroken stand of 49 from skipper Rob Williams (24) and his father Chris, with 33.

But then Whitland captain Webb and Dave Lee put on 72 for their first wicket before the latter was run out by a direct hit from Andrew Cole (junior).

Paul Davies had ten boundaries in his 48 not out, however, and Webb's 59 appropriately took Whitland to a win that was achieved in 41 overs.

Llangwm (209 for 1) beat St Ishmaels (206 for 6) Umpires: Dave Brandon and Bob Flute Scorers: Jeff Saies and Wendy Bradshaw

A sparkling 105 not out by George Thomas, ably supported by an unbeaten 79 from McPherson Mead, helped Llangwm gain a superb nine-wicket success against St Ishmaels that really enhances their hopes of staying in the section.

The pair came together with the score on 19 after Alister Platten had been run out by a good throw from Andrew Williams, and Thomas raced to 50 in 42 balls before finishing up undefeated with 14 fours and two sixes to his name, while Mead had ten boundaries and a six to his credit.

On a run-soaked pitch at Pill Parks, Tish had Andrew Williams (57) and Kristan Bennett (64 not out) to thank for their final tally, the pair putting on 122 after Steve Williams (28) had helped them early on.

But then Thomas and Mead joined forces to do the damage for Llangwm, who did well to chase such a big target with 11 balls to spare. The Tish match ball was sponsored by Mr Wyn John.
