Dear Editor, - Having recently visited Pembrokeshire for a holiday, we would like to record how impressed we were, not only by the beauty of the area and the friendliness of the people, but also by the number, availability and cleanliness of the free public conveniences at the various towns and beaches we visited.

They were by far the best we have encountered in the many areas of Great Britain we have visited in the last 20 years! Clean and graffiti-free toilets, with soap and paper, are a small but essential part of a tourist's experience and helps to give a good impression of the area.

We were also impressed by the character of the 'tourist' areas - lacking tacky amusements and fast food outlets. If this is as a result of tight planning controls, please keep them. Many families with children must appreciate this lack of unsuitable distractions.

Thank you for a lovely holiday and the money and efforts taken to maintain such excellent facilities.
