DEAR EDITOR, - Much has been written about the decline of our National Health Service. However, I think we are lucky to have such a fine hospital and general practice doctors in this part of the world. There is a huge discrepancy, however, between this and dental health care.
There is not one dental practice in Pembrokeshire that will take on NHS patients. Due to inadequate funding from the Government, dentists cannot make the reasonable living they deserve. In effect, the Government has privatised the dental care section of the NHS. How long before this creeping privatisation is extended to general medical practice and hospitals?
It would be interesting to hear from our politicians the reasons why inadequate remuneration is offered to dentists and what they intend to do in the short-term to provide a dental service for the people of Pembrokeshire.
