Cadets and staff of No. 1574 (Pembroke Borough) Squadron, Air Training Corps, were joined by the Mayors of Pembroke, Pembroke Dock and Neyland as they celebrated a year of success at the squadron's recent presentation evening.

Other guests included Wing Staff Officer, Flight Lieutenant Paul Axon, members of other local cadet units, parents, friends, former cadets, civilian committee members and squadron staff.

Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Mark Davies, congratulated the cadets on their achievements during the last year, which has seen the squadron grow considerably in strength to over 30 cadets. He thanked officers and staff, past and present, whose dedication, leadership and effort has greatly contributed to the successes of the cadets. He also thanked the squadron civilian committee who have worked tirelessly to raise funds which has enabled tents, rucksacks and other equipment to be purchased.

The Commanding Officer's Cup For Outstanding Achievement was awarded for the first time this year. It went to the squadron's most senior cadet, 18-year-old Cadet Warrant Officer Peter Lewis from Lamphey. Peter gained the prestigious Air Cadet Junior Leaders' Award in April, only the second cadet in Wales and West Region ever to do so.

Peter is presently in the USA, as a guest of the US Air Force and as No.3 Welsh Wing's representative in the International Air Cadet Exchange scheme.

He leave the squadron in the autumn to read history and politics at university, before starting a career as an officer in the Royal Air Force.

Other major achievements earned by the squadron in the last year included taking the Overall Boys' Team Trophy at the No.3 Welsh Wing Athletics Championship and winning the RAF Careers Quiz in Swansea.
