Duggie Morris Cup semi final

Llangwm (85 for 1) beat Hook (84 for 6) Umpires: Tony Scourfield and Brian Thomas Scorers: Jeff Saies and Chris Holder

Llangwm coasted into the final of the Duggie Morris Cup as they beat near-neighbours Hook, who suffered a batting collapse after a cracking start supplied by Matthew Rowlands and Jamie Phelps.

It left them with a modest total from their allotted 20 overs and Llangwm had little problem in easing home with three overs in hand.

Yet it seemed that Llangwm would face a much larger challenge as Phelps and Rowlands batted really well on a good Pill Parks track.

They both drove superbly through the covers and took their singles well as they put on 50 runs in the first nine overs - but then Martyn Inward joined the fray at the bottom end and when Phelps tried to flick him over the square-leg boundary he found the safe hands of Andrew Harries waiting to pouch a fine catch at head height.

Phelps had scored 25, including three boundaries, and worse was to follow two balls later because Rowlands, who also had three fours in his 23, drove the ball straight back and Inward held on to a cracking return catch.

Keith James and Gary Martin managed to add a further 26 runs but were not allowed to take control as home skipper Darren Brick and especially Andrew Phillips applied the brakes. Phillips bowled James (13) and had Martin superbly caught at deep point by McPherson Mead from a powerful slash - and finished with 3 for 9 from his four overs as Hook limped to 84 for 6, having scored only 34 runs in their last 11 overs.

Llangwm lost William Beresford, bowled by Martin, for only nine runs but it proved to be the only success enjoyed by the visitors as George Thomas and Mead built an unbroken stand of 56. Thomas had eight fours in his 38 not out while Mead supported well with 20 not out - and Llangwm were able to celebrate a day out at Burton for the final!
