Rain ruined yet another Saturday for the teams in the top echelon of Pembrokeshire Cricket, all four matches starting on time but all the victims of the rain which swept back in fairly soon afterwards.

CRESSELLY and LAMPHEY managed to play for the longest period as umpires Les Hastings and John Williams gave it a second try after an early tea - but down came the rain again and the match finished with Lamphey looking in good form on 73 for 2 wickets, and with batsmen Gareth Lewis and Mark Yea looking well set.

Teenager pace bowler James Caine struck an early blow for Cresselly as he had Peter Hall caught by Richard Harris for a single with the score on 4 - and Caine added a second scalp when he had Daniel Sutton caught by Damian Arthur for 25 (three fours) with the total on 40, to give the young bowler figures of 2 for 21 from his seven overs, two of them maidens.

Phil James (0 for 34 in nine overs), Richard Harris (0 for 14 in two overs) and Steve Jenkins (0 for 4 in his first over) all toiled away in the Cresselly cause but Gareth Lewis moved smoothly to 23 not out with three fours and Yea was even quicker as he blasted two sixes and two fours and he also finished up on 23 not out before the umpires said enough was enough. The scorers for this match were Dave Richards and Helen Hodges.

Current leaders HAVERFORDWEST had asked HOOK to bat and the home side had moved effortlessly to 39 without loss as before Alister Platten was bowled by Paul Thomas for 24, an innings which contained a six and three fours. Jamie Phelps was unbeaten on 14 and had just been joined by Mick Haltam as the game was called off by umpires Ray Kane and Bob Flute with the score on 41 for 1 in 16 overs.

Thomas had four maidens in his eight overs as he returned figures of 1 for 10 alongside Adrian Griffiths (0 for 15 in six overs, three of them maidens) and Simon Williams (0 for 15 from two overs) - and then scorers Arthur Green and Jayne Cole had to beat a hasty retreat from the scorebox as heavy rain fell at Hook!

The game just down the road at Pill Parks lasted an even shorter time as WHITLAND stood at 17 for 1 against LLANGWM when umpires Dave Morris and Tony Davies called a halt to affairs. Llangwm had got off to a great start as Andrew Phillips bowled the second over and shifted Dave Lee for a Golden Duck from his very first delivery, yorked off stump. But Paul Webb (2 not out) and Daniel Griffiths (two boundaries in an undefeated 13) made sure that there were no further wickets and Phillips had a 1 for 3 haul in his four maidens while Darren Brick finished with 0 for 13 in five overs. The scorers were Stuart Beresford and Richard Merriman.

CAREW hoped to carry on the previous weeks good form against Haverfordwest at Treleet against PEMBROKE and were in good early form as they reached 41 without loss in 14 overs. Ian Sefton was on 22 and Nicky Scourfield 15 as Gwyn Griffiths, Martin Fletcher and Nigel Phillips bowled for the homesters without any success as the umpires were David Loosemore and Dave Brandon.
