Haverfordwest 13 Mumbles 24

Haverfordwest conceded 17 points in a first-half spell where they were reduced to 14 men and the Blues were 24-3 down the break before making a strong come-back afterwards.

In the second session they managed two tries without response from Mumbles but it was too late to redress the balance and so they had to endure another home defeat.

Mumbles had taken an early lead with a try big second row Steve Bolan which was converted by Justin Price before Haverfordwest responded quickly as Steve Williams notched a penalty.

But after the influential Richard Brazell was unluckily yellow-carded, his temporary departure certainly had an effect because in the next ten minutes Mumbles grabbed tries from flanker Richard Lewis and prop John Stock, with Price converting both and landing a penalty.

The Blues deserve credit for the fact that they might have folded but really good work up front by Karl Weake, Steve Hamer, Gareth and Chris Thomas saw them gain the ascendancy.

Jonathan Llewhellin came on at full back, Bruce Evans switched to scrum half and Matthew Kelly replaced David Jones in the centre - and Bruce Evans set up the Blues first try with a little thrust on the blind side, putting Paul Mason over in the corner.

Evans was also involved in the 25th minute as he created space on the blind side and his clever kick allowed Jamie Pearce to claim a try.

But, try as they might, the Blues were unable to break down the obdurate Mumbles defence again - and this defeat didnt really do justice to the amount of hard work put in by the entire Haverfordwest team.
