Narberth 2 St Ishmaels 2

Two goals by talented teenager Adam Davies saw St Ishmaels into a healthy position at the break against a Narberth side that seemed to be suffering from a hang-over after their Senior Cup semi-final success the previous week.

But Ralph Phillips lads are nothing if not bonny fighters and they hauled themselves back into the game after the interval and grabbed a brace of goals themselves to set up an interesting final ten minutes before the teams had to share the spoils.

With Phil Scourfield unavailable as sweeper, Narberth pushed Paul Phillips back alongside James Stephens but the pair were soon under a little pressure and Adam Davies served notice of his pace as he went through, only to miss a sitter from in front as Steve Poole scurried to cover.

Narberth thought that they had taken the lead after 12 minutes when a good build up involving Dave Lee, Davy Johns and Richard Nash, back home to help Narberth out with their current fixture congestion, gave Jason Bridges the chance to fire past Jonathan Pawlett in the Tish goal.

Tish manager Mark Davies was forced to travel with a makeshift side where he played alongside another veteran in Nicky Howlin, with assistant manager Billy Howlin also on the team-sheet as sub.

But Dabbsie soon had something to cheer about because son Adam, who worked well up front with Steve Parkes, put Tish ahead after 18 minutes when the red-headed youngster outpaced the cover and calmly rounded Poole to plant the ball into an empty net.

Glyn Griffiths and Scott Devonald played well at the back for Tish while Scotts twin brother Marc had a strong game in midfield so it came as no surprise when the visitors doubled their lead after 23 minutes when Adam Davies again had too much pace and struck his final shot past Poole.

Whatever canny boss Ralph Phillips and coach Mike Johns said at the break it certainly reaped a reward as they put Davy Johns as last man to try and nullify the danger caused by Adam Davies and no-one is more adept at the role, other than the absent Scourfield.

The Bluebirds began to grow in confidence as Wayne Howells and Bridges put themselves about and Narberth reduced the deficit with a penalty awarded by referee Brain Hawkins for handball in the box, Davy Johns keeping his composure to slot the ball past Pawletts outstretched hand.

Narberth continued to shade the possession stakes and after 79 minutes they drew level as Paul Phillips played in Wayne Howells, who drilled a low shot into the bottom corner to tie things up.

There was no further scoring, however, and a final word of praise for referee Brian Hawkins, who booked Tishs Neil Flynn in the first half, plus Wayne Howells (Narberth), Adam and Mark Davies (Tish) afterwards.

He maintained a quiet control and although players and supporters sometimes didnt agree with his decisions he left them in no doubt of what he required in a good display of reffing.
