Haverfordwest County 4 Carmarthen Town 3

The Bluebirds came back from a goal down with ten minutes to go to pinch victory in an exciting game on the Bridge Meadow.

They led 2 - 1 at half-time with goals from Mike Preddy and Marcus Taylor, but a two-goal Carmarthen surge in the second half saw the Richmond Park side go into the lead. With ten minutes to go, Mike Preddy was hauled down in the box, and the Carmarthen keeper saved Taylors spot kick, but was adjudged to be off his line and the kick had to be re-taken. Taylors second effort made no mistake.

The game was finally turned by an inspired substitution by coach Jeff Blain, who brought on ex-Cardigan Town player Steve Phillips with the instruction to go on there and get us a goal. Phillips had fired against the crossbar within a couple of minutes and finally, with two minutes to go, chipped the keeper for the winning goal.

Outstanding for the Bluebirds were Jamie Lonergan, totally dominant in defence, and Marcus Taylor, playing on the right side of mid-field and sending a clear signal to League of Wales manager John Lewis with his second man-of-the-match performance in two Saturdays.

Next Tuesday, the Blues are at home to top-of-the-table Pontardawe, kick-off 7.30 pm. A win would put them level on points with the leaders with three games in hand. Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, April 3rd, the Bluebirds Youth side are at home to Llanelli in the first round of the Astoria Cup, kick-off 7 pm.
