A WHITLAND MAN has won his fight to spend his last few months in his own home.

Dyfed Powys Health Authority had previously told Jason Lee Powell, aged 33, of Trevaughan, that they would not grant his dearest wish by providing him with intensive care at home.

Suffering from multiple sclerosis and aspiration pneumonia, Jason knows he may not live beyond Christmas and had expressed a desire to spend his last days with family and friends.

His family were on the brink of taking legal action over the decision. However, three days before the case was due to be heard in the High Court in London, the Health Authority backed down. They have confirmed that an agreement has been reached, but have declined to comment further.

The decision means Mr Powell will now receive 24-hour care at his home instead of having to take up the authoritys offer of a place in a nursing home.

His mother, Mrs Eileen Olive, welcomed the decision and said it had come as a great relief to both Jason and his family.
