DEAR EDITOR, - Concerning my research on my ancestors from the Pembrokeshire area, I would like to give the details and hopefully someone who may be belonging can help me with my research.

I am unable to come to Pembroke at the moment as I have a young family and we live in Spain.

Here are the details: John Tucker possible from St Twinnells married a Ann Hall at Stackpole Elidor on January 1st, 1825. I have no birth dates for them but I am assuming that they would have been born about 1800. They had at least five children and they were: James, born 1825; Mary (my ancestor), born 1827, St Petrox; George, born 1831, possible St Petrox; William, born 1836; Edward, born 1849, St Mary.

I have no death date for John but I do know that Ann went to live with Mary and her family as I have her in the census of St Mary Pater and I do have a death date for her and that was June 25th, 1885 at Prospect Place, with her at the time of death was her granddaughter Ann Tucker, so I know that one of her sons were married with children, but I don't know what else.

Mary married a James Roberts, born about 1822 in Hereford who was a soldier in the 36th foot Regiment and that was in 1852. They had six children and they were: Ellen, born 1852, Pembroke; William (Henry) (my ancestor), born 1856, Northampton, died 1914, Pembroke; James, born 1858, Cork, Ireland; Emma, born 1860, Pembroke; John Edward (my ancestor), born 1865, Pembroke, died 1916, Pembroke Dock; Herbert, born 1870, Pembroke.

You notice that I have put Ancestor twice that's because the children of these two brothers married one another. The children who married were Arthur Bernard Roberts, born 1890, Deptford, London (his father John Edwards was in the Metropolitan police force before moving back to Pembroke Dock) and Elizabeth Ann(ie) Roberts, born 1892, Pembroke Dock, they moved up to Penrhiweceiber/Mountain Ash, where most of the family still live.

The other family that I am trying to trace is the wife of William Henry Roberts (the above) her name was Martha Griffiths. She was born about 1861, St Florence, she died aged 37, in 1898, Pembroke.

Her father's name was William and if I have my details correct then her mother may have been Jane Canton. In the 1871 census they have William as being born in Monkton, 1829 and Jane in Narberth, 1828. When I looked at the Freebmd website I found a marriage between Jane Canton and a William Griffiths in the DEC Qtr of 1856, now this may not be the right pair but on Martha's marriage certificate there is a witness whose name is Esther Elizabeth Canton, so I am piecing the two together hoping I am right, that Canton is the right family.

The children of William and Jane are: Martha, born 1861, St Florence, died 1898, Pembroke; Mary, born 1863, St Florence; William, born 1865, St Florence; Elizabeth A, born 1867; John, born 1869, St Florence.

The children of William and Martha are (found on the 1901 census): John Henry, age nine; Elizabeth (my ancestor), aged eight, died 1952, Penrhiweceiber/Mountain Ash; Austin, age six; Louisa, age three.

If anyone recognises these families I will be so grateful to hear from you. I would love to go back further than what I have already. My email address is Rhiannon@telefonica.net, please get in touch with anything that you may have. Thank you very much.
