J. J. Morris reports: CALVES (61): An increased entry forward sold to an improved demand with plenty of farmers and regular buyers around the sale ring ensuring that the beef rearing calves in particular met an improved trade.

Top price was £200 for a Limousin bull calf presented by Evans, Waterholmes Farm, Llawhaden with beef heifers selling to a top price of £86 for a Limousin presented by Jones & Son, New House Farm, Lampeter Velfrey whilst top price heifer was £105 for a Friesian from Thomas, Gellifelen, Tavernspite. Friesian bulls sold to a top price of £37 and averaged £12.

HEIFERS: £105 (Fri) from Thomas, Gellifelen, Tavernspite also £102 (Fri); £86 (Lim) from Jones & Son, New House Farm, Lampeter Velfrey also £80 twice (Lim).

APPROVED LAMBS AND HOGGETTS (820):

Another good entry of approved lambs forward sold to a steady trade inline with national trends with the overall average at 113.61p per kilo.

Medium weight good quality Farm Assured lambs were keenly contested on the day which saw a top price per kilo of 123.50p per kilo for 39.5 kilo lambs presented by Bowen, Kyngadle Farm, Laugharne who also presented a 40 kilo pen which realised 122p per kilo. Other leading prices included 121.50p per kilo for 40 kilo lambs from Davies, Morfa Farm, Mathry and 120p for 40 kilo lambs from Monahan, Biggins Hill Farm, Waterston Road and for 35 kilo lambs from Williams, Natts Hook Farm, Portfield Gate.

QUOTATIONS:

CULL EWES AND RAMS (373):

Once again there was a large entry forward with trade improved on recent levels. Top price was £60 for Texels from Windsor & Son, Fforest Farm, Whitland with other leading prices including £58 from James, Green Hall, Trelech; £54 from Thomas & Co., Plas-Y-Fforest Farm, Heol-Y-Plas and £53.50 from Roberts, Parke, Henllan Amgoed.

Cull Rams sold to a top price of £50 from Powell, Simpson West Farm, Simpson Cross and averaged £35.20.

DAIRY SALE:

A Special Entry of In-calf Friesian Cows and Heifers from Evans & Co., Bryncleddau, Wolfscastle sold to a reasonable demand throughout with a top price of £740 with other leading prices including £720, £710, £700 and £690.
