EXCELLENT, great music and truly local. These are just some of the comments from listeners following the 28-day trial of Cleddau FM, which ended on Sunday.

However, it was not only the audience which was pleased with the new community radio station.

Lloyd Coles, station co-ordinator of the non-profit making station, said: "It went down really well, I have to say I was quite surprised at the response.

"We have had a lot of feedback from listeners to say they liked the music or the Welsh language shows and I think all programmes were well received."

He said the station had received more than 2,000 e-mails from people voicing their support or offering their comments.

However, it is impossible to say exactly how many of the potential 20,000 strong audience were tuning in to the station's coverage area which stretched across Pembroke, Pembroke Dock, Neyland and parts of Milford Haven.

Over the four weeks Cleddau FM broadcast 24-hours-a-day on 87.9FM from the Cleddau Bridge Hotel, Pembroke Dock.

During their time on air more than 100 local people were interviewed. In addition the station gave a voice to many local organisations.

It also featured Welsh language shows, sports coverage, details of up-coming entertainment events and news bulletins provided by the Western Telegraph.

Mayor of Pembroke Dock and first Cleddau FM interviewee, Ron Watts, said: "I thought the content was very good, both my car radio and my kitchen radio were tuned into it. I liked the news and the off-beat music."

Nick Ainger, Junior Minister for the Wales Office and Christine Gwyther AM also lent their support for the project on air.

Encouraged by the public's reaction to the station, Cleddau FM plan on having another trial later in the year.
