Harrison Allen Bowl semi final Carew (156 for 3) beat Hook (106 all out)

Carew used their wealth of experience in Bowl semi-finals to dispose of the challenge of a Hook side which gave 100% but was always on the back foot once Carew had settled into their batting and set a challenging total.

Division Two leaders Hook lost key run-gatherers Jamie Phelps and Ross Martin early and from then on it was evident that Carew were in control, despite the efforts of Keith James and Andrew Thomas against some excellent bowling by Steve Ive and Carew skipper Rob Scourfield.

Yet Carew had made a nervy start after electing to bat, with Robbie Hicks almost run out in the first over and Brian Hall dropped by Matthew Holder at mid-on.

Hicks didn't make Hook pay, as he normally would, attempting a pull off Holder next over and lobbing a catch to Jamie Phelps before departing for a duck.

Hall reached 14 but departed with the score on 24, caught by Keith James at midwicket. But then Carew flexed their batting muscles.

Simon Wood and Tim Hicks put on 58 runs, although Hicks also had a shaky start.

He thought he had been caught behind by Matthew Rowlands and started to walk off the pitch, only to realise that Rowlands had spilled the ball when he had done all the hard work.

It was to prove a costly error because the pair ran well between the wicket and notched up the runs which saw Carew into the final.
