MRS L. R. WILLIAMS FISHGUARD Mrs Linda Rosina Williams, of 1 Clos-y-Gonol, Fishguard, died on August 7th at Withybush Hospital, aged 73. The funeral service took place on Thursday, August 11th at St Mary's Church, Fishguard, and was followed by interment at St Mary's Churchyard. The service was conducted by Rev Brian Barnes. Apologies were received from Rev Roger Griffiths and Menna Brown. Mrs Williams was born in Fishguard, and lived there all her life. She worked at Cookes, Parrs and Skippers Cabin and Mrs Williams was well liked in the locality. Left to mourn are: Des, husband; Mary and Dewi, daughter and son-in-law; Annette and Graham, daughter and son-in-law; Ioan and Angharad, grandson and fiancee; Lisa and Nia, granddaughters; Vesta, sister; Norman and Pat, brother and sister-in-law: Kathleen, sister-in-law; Frank, brother-in-law, together with family and friends too numerous to mention. Messrs Bernard Parr, Martin Williams, Neil Williams, Carl Reynolds served as bearers. Donations are being received in memory of Mrs Williams for ward seven, Withybush Hospital and Research into Diabetes, c/o Lloyds TSB Bank, West Street, Fishguard. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Jenkins and Phillips, Funeral Directors, Fishguard.

MR J. I. JAMES LETTERSTON The death has occurred of Mr John Idwal James, of 80 Station Road, Letterston, Haverfordwest. Mr James died at his home on August 7th, aged 55. John was a native of Letterston and leaves to mourn: Ann and Dai Williams (sister and brother-in-law); Penny, Pam, Paula and families (nieces); Annie and Nat Percy (aunt and uncle); May Rees and Ivy James (aunts). The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth on Monday, August 15th and was conducted by the Rev Geoffrey Eynon. Principal mourners were: Ann and Dai Williams (sister and brother-in-law); Penny and Louise Baskerville, Pam and Martin Murrell, Paula and Kirsty Bushnell (nephews and nieces); Mrs Annie Percy and Mrs May Rees (aunts); and other relatives too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were: Mr Nat Percy (uncle); Mrs Ivy James (aunt). There were immediate family flowers only with donations in lieu of flowers to Gateway Club, Fishguard, c/o Mr Eric Harries, Berrion House, Station Road, Letterston, Haverfordwest. MRS S. A. YOUNG HAKIN We have been asked to point out by the mother of David and Karl Lewis (nephews), that their names should not have been included in the obituary of Shirley Ann Young, of 49 Harbour Way, Hakin, Milford Haven, which appeared in last week's paper.

MR P. A. STOCKDALE JOHNSTON (Formerly of Haverfordwest) The death occurred on August 4th at the Fairfield Nursing Home, Johnston of Mr Patrick Anthony Stockdale (known as Tony) who had lived at 21 Marychurch Court, Haverfordwest. He was 85. Born in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland, he was a proud Irishman who held three things very dear to his heart: his love of Ireland, the sea and his even greater love of his family. Always quick with a joke and a smile, the love of Tony's life was his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a Chief Engineer (Marine) for most of his life and served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. After the war and having met his wife in Milford he went to sea on the trawlers. When the fishing out of Milford declined he served on the ocean-going tugs for a number of years. His final berth was with the Milford Docks Company, where he was a much-respected and well-known character. He retired at the age of 71. Tony will best be remembered for his sense of humour and his ability to make everybody he met feel special. The funeral took place on Friday, August 12th at St David and St Patrick Catholic Church, Haverfordwest, followed by interment at City Cemetery. The service was conducted by Father Timothy Cullen. Bearers were Tony, Gareth, Wayne (grandsons) and David (grandson-in-law). Family left to mourn is Lily (wife), Alan and Maureen (son and spouse), Ellen and Albino, Joan and David (daughters and spouses), David (grandson), Gareth and Sue, Nicola and David, Tony and Donna (grandchildren and spouses), Wayne and Debbie, Marie and Brendan (grandchildren and partners), great grandchildren Sheena, James, Jake, Martino, Brittany, Emily, Rosaria and Eleanor, cousins Cullum and his wife Maureen, Mairead and Kathleen. Robin Folland of Haverfordwest made the funeral arrangements.

MRS R. HUGHES NARBERTH The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on August 5th, of Mrs Rebecca Hughes, of 25 Halkon Crescent, Narberth. She was 86. Mrs Hughes was a native of Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire and had worked at a weaver in the woollen mill in Morley. During the war, she worked as an ammunitions maker in the AVRO factory. She was also a housewife and mother to three girls. Being housebound, Rebecca loved to listen to Songs of Praise and any Welsh choirs. Predeceased by her husband, Alban George Picton Hughes in 1997, she leaves to mourn three daughters, three sons-in-law, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister (last remaining of 12 brothers and sisters). The funeral took place on August 15th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, and was officiated by Mr C. Rees. Bearers were Gordon, Peter and Alan (sons-in-law) and Alan Jnr (only grandson). Principal mourners were: Patricia and Gordon, Barbara and Peter, Linda and Alan (daughters and sons-in-law); Alan, Joanne, Sarah, Julie, Karen, Carol and partners (grandchildren); Keelie and Thomas (great-grandchildren). There was family flowers only. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Hywel Evans, Narberth.

MRS J. GORRINGE MILFORD HAVEN The death occurred on August 12th at ward 11, Withybush Hospital, of Mrs June Gorringe, of 49 Edward Street, Milford Haven. She was 70. Mrs Gorringe was a native of England until her marriage to William. She worked for Ferguson Television in Enfield, Middlesex. Her hobbies were reading, crosswords, and collective porcelain bells. Family left to mourn are: William Gorringe (husband); Mary and Martin Lovell, Naomi Lovell (granddaughter), Iain Lovell (grandson), William and Debbie Gorringe, Tina Gorringe. The funeral took place at Hamilton Court Funeral Home, Dartmouth street, Milford Haven on Thursday, August 16th, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was conducted by Father John Davies. Principal mourners were: Bill Gorringe (husband); Mary Lovell (daughter); William Gorringe Jnr; Tina Gorringe (daughter); Naomi and Iain (grandchildren); Martin Lovell (son-in-law); Debbie Gorringe (daughter-in-law). Donations in lieu of flowers in memor of Mrs Gorringe can be sent to Macmillan Cancer Nurses Wales, Barclays Bank. MRS O. J. L. LLOYD-PHILIPPS DALE CASTLE The funeral took place at St James' Church, Dale on April 14th, followed by cremation and committal of the ashes at St Ishmael's Church, Camrose of Mrs Osra Joan Lucie Lloyd-Philipps. Mrs Lloyd-Philipps died on March 24th, aged 85. The service was taken by Rev Dennis Wight, assisted by Rev Peter Davies, The coffin was carried by tenants of Dale Castle Estate. A tribute was given by Mr Thomas Lloyd, who recalled the Pembrokeshire roots of Mrs Lloyd-Philipps and her service to the county and to Dale Castle Estate which had been her home, since her marriage to the late Mr Hugh Lloyd-Philipps, in 1957. The church had been decorated by members of the parish. A reading of She Has Gone was given by Miss Gwenllian Davies. The organ was played by Mrs Barbara Pomero. There wre family flowers only by request, with donations in lieu being divided between Dale and Camrose Churches. Principal mourners included: Dr Sheilagh Davies and Miss Gwenllian Davies; Mr and Mrs Martyn Ryder; Mrs Jacqueline Gower-Johnson; Miss Eleanor Gower-Johnson and Mr and Mrs Edward Gilbertson. The church was filled with family, tenants of the Estate, friends and neighbours. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

MR J. T. HENNESSY FISHGUARD The funeral took place on Friday, August 12th at the Church of the Holy Name, Fishguard, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, of Mr James Thomas Hennessy, of 40 Vergam Terrace, Fishguard, who died at his home on August 6th, aged 73. James was born in Harbour Village, Goodwick, and although he served his apprenticeship followed by ten years in the Merchant Navy, his heart always remained in Fishguard. After returning home, he married Val, and worked at Fishguard Harbour for 31 years. James was a devoted husband and father. He was truly a gentleman. He leaves to mourn his wife of 45 years, Valerie, his daughter Teresa, his sister and brother-in-law Maureen and Tom, his nephew and nieces Anthony, Marian and Angela and their families. The bearers were Ian Bevan, David Lloyd, Gareth Lloyd, Anthony Somers, Mark Tormey and Malcolm Howells. Donations in memory of James are being received for the Fishguard and Goodwick branch of the RNLI, c/o Lloyds TSB Bank, West Street, Fishguard. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Jenkins and Phillips, funeral directors, Fishguard.

MRS M. EDWARDS MILFORD HAVEN Mrs Margaret Edwards, of 8 Hilton House, Milford Haven, died at home on August 11th, aged 72. Mrs Edwards was a native of Trefin and worked in many shops, her last job being making parts for aeroplanes in Andover, retiring in 1992. Her hobbies were playing bingo, reading, socialising and spending time with her family. Predeceased by her husband, Benny Edwards, she leaves to mourn Dilys and Mary (sisters) and Gareth (brother). The funeral took place on Tuesday, August 16th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, and was officiated by Rev Price. Principal mourners were: Dilys and Huw, Mary and Frank, Gareth and Sandy, Victor and Maureen, Richard and Maureen, Pat and Rhiannon, Alan and Gary, Valerie, Richie, June and Joseph, David and Richard, Myra, Meurig and Elspeth, Alan and Martin, Jean, Leigh, Kimberly and Katie, Susan, Martin, Francesca and Harry, Maria, Julie and Gareth, Vicki, Tracey and Mack, Matthew and Abby, Steven, Amanda, Jodie, Samantha and Adam, Robert and Amanda, and numerous family and friends. MR T. J. B. MATHIAS WOLFSCASTLE The death occurred on August 10th at Withybush Hospital, after a short stay, of Mr Thomas James Brian Mathias, of Gorwel, Wolfscastle, Haverfordwest, aged 65. Mr Mathias was born at Bank House, now known as Glen View, Wolfscastle and on leaving school he worked at home on the family farm as well as one other local farm. Later he had many various jobs before being employed by Harcross Builders Merchant at Goodwick, being yard foreman before retiring early due to ill health. Brian was well known over a wide area and was very interested in gardening, reading, fishing and all sporting activities. Predeceased by his brother, Leslie, he leaves to mourn Mair, Bronwen and Beryl (sisters); Colin (brother); and their families. A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral service on Tuesday, August 16th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. The service was conducted by Rev Geoffrey Eynon and Mr Mathias' ashes were later interred in the family grave at Saron Cemetery, Letterston. Bearers were Brian, Bruce and Anthony Mathias and Arwyn Howells (nephews). Principal mourners were: Mair and Peter Jones, Beryl Howells (sisters and brother-in-law); Colin and Val Mathias (brother and sister-in-law); Brenda Mathias (sister-in-law); Sian and Ceri, Susan, Arwyn, Gillian, Delyth and Matthew, Helen, Moira and Stephen, Brian and Eileen, Bruce, Barbara and Melvin, Anthony and Stephanie (nephews and nieces); Bryn and Dinah Perkins, May Rees (uncle and aunts); together with numerous more distant relatives and friends. Unable to attend were: Bronwen Elliott (sister); Steven and Jane, David Jones and Pauline Howells (nephews and nieces). MRS M. RENSHAW HAVERFORDWEST Mrs Marjorie Renshaw (ne Bessent), of Spinney-side, Merlins Avenue, Haverfordwest, died at Velindre, Cardiff on August 5th. She was 68. Mrs Renshaw was born in Swansea but for the last 30 years had lived in Haverfordwest. She had worked in Swansea, Cardiff and Haverfordwest, working for the DCL Yeast Company, H. P. Williams, Solicitors, Sheriffs Office, and as a personal assistant, retiring at the age of 65. Her main interests were crosswords, classical music and opera. She was also a member of Haverfordwest Golf Club. Family left to mourn are: Ron Renshaw (husband); Stuart (son). The funeral took place on August 15th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, and was conducted by Canon G. Gwyther. Principal mourners were: Ron Renshaw (husband); Stuart (son); Mary (sister); David (brother-in-law); June (sister-in-law); Bobby (brother-in-law). There were family flowers only. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

MRS D. M. WOLFENDEN MILFORD HAVEN The death occurred at Withybush Hospital, on Saturday, August 6th of Mrs Dorothy May Wolfenden (ne Ewels), of 4 Westfield Close, Milford Haven at the age of 82. Dorothy was known as a Hakin girl. For the early years of her life, she lived at the Bethel, Charles Street where her then well-known grandfather Skipper Harry Lake was Superintendent of The Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. The family moved to Hakinville and on leaving school she worked in the office of Crofts Garage for some years and to the public health department at Milford Haven Town Hall. She met her husband Jack when he was stationed at the Drill Hall in Milford Haven and on his leaving the Forces they moved away for him to continue his journalistic career, living in various places and seven years in Canada where there is an extended family. Dorothy was predeceased by her eldest son Robert and daughter Jennifer. On the death of her husband in Glastonbury she returned to her beloved Milford Haven. She lived quietly, contentedly, enjoying her life and home with a passion for gardening, crosswords and walking and was a regular caller at Havenhurst Residential Home where her mother lived for 13 years. Left to mourn are her son Roger and family in Leicester, her daughter Patricia in Canada, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her niece Susan Neil of Goodwick and many relatives and friends. The funeral took place at St Katharine's and St Peter's church, Milford Haven, followed by interment at Milford Haven Cemetery on Thursday, August 11th. Canon John Davies officiated. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Limited, Milford Haven.
