A CROWD of very lucky visitors to Folly Farm gathered to watch the birth of a baby llama this week.

As word of the birth spread around the farm attractions zoo, hundreds of people flocked to witness the event.

It was not long before the baby was taking his first wobbly steps, to a huge round of applause from onlookers.

With the careful help of parents, Jacob and Hannah, and other llamas Naomi and Ruth, the new baby was walking within five minutes of his birth!

One onlooker, a mother-of-two, said: "What a wonderful thing to have seen! We thought we had seen just about everything in the zoo and then this happened.

"It's been a great educational experience for my children. They're aged three and four and they've never seen anything like this. It was the highlight of our day!"

Another visitor added: "It was a very heart-warming moment - so many people came to watch the birth and as the baby struggled to its feet for the first time, everyone was genuinely delighted! What a fantastic day."

Folly Farm's zookeepers were also very pleased with the birth. Zoo keeper Tim Morphew said: "We're all very pleased that the birth went so well. The baby's doing great and luckily many of our visitors got to see the event, which will be a very special memory for lots of families."

Since so many of visitors witnessed the birth of the new baby, Folly Farm has decided to let the public name him! The person who suggests the best name will receive a family ticket to Folly Farm, where they can go and see the llamas for themselves.

Suggestions should be sent (by September 19th) to: Name the Llama, Folly Farm, Begelly, Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire, SA68 OXA.
