County Cricket: Division One Haverfordwest (174 for 6) drew with Neyland (76 for 6)

Haverfordwest gained maximum draw points against a strangely defensive Neyland team and received the league championship trophy for the second successive year under the guidance of skipper Adrian Griffiths.

He received the trophy from county club president Stan Richards and praised his side for their unbeaten league run over the last two seasons - and showed he still has something to offer with bowling figures of 3 for 14.

Put in to bat, Haverfordwest openers Danny Potter (67 in 104 balls) and Dai Davies (39 in 107 deliveries) put on 105 runs before Potter departed with six fours to his name.

Karl Rhead (31 in 28 balls) tried to raise the tempo after Phil Kirkby and Davies had been removed by Patrick Hannon while Andrew Phillips chipped in with 18 not out.

The Town finished up with 174 for 6 when they might have been looking for a 220-plus score.

But their efforts seemed electric in comparison to Neyland's snail-like progress after tea. Simon Williams grabbed 2 for 11 in nine overs, Phil Kirkby bowled six overs for ten runs, Clive Tucker took 1 for 20 in 12 overs and Steve Phillips bowled four overs without conceding a single run.

John Jones top scored with 34 but only Phil Davies (11 not out) managed double figures after that as Neyland settled for 76 for 6 from 45 overs.
