PEMBROKESHIRE has joined with every other area of the country in catching a dose of cricket fever as England battled victoriously for The Ashes against Australia.

Regular trips to all the five games have been made by cricket lovers and no-one typifies their attitude more than the Sexton family from Haverfordwest, who enjoyed the first two days of the fourth test at Trent Bridge as part of a party of 30 from Haverfordwest and Lamphey who travelled with Silcox Coaches.

Rita and Ted Sexton helped organise the Haverfordwest end of the pilgrimage and were joined by son Alan and his wife Lisa, plus their daughter Bethany, who at eight weeks old must surely stake a claim to be the youngest fan at the match!

They were also joined by their other son Mark and his son Joe to complete a nice family reunion.

Rita has to use a wheelchair, but with typical humour and grit, pointed out that she and Ted were superbly sited in the middle tier of the Radcliffe Road end of the ground, while the others had a cracking view but were a little too close to the raucous 'Barmy Army' for her liking!

Rita and Ted both agreed that it was a wonderful atmosphere, as they watched Andrew Flintoff score a century and Geraint Jones struck 89, with memories brought back of the days when they lived just a cricket-ball throw away from Trent Bridge and Rita used to take Mark and Alan in to watch the cricket while Ted was working.

Also included in their party was Ken Howell, now 89 years young and still enjoying test matches; Tom Jones (Neyland), Ros and Malcolm Phillips, Graham and James Morris, Les Goodchild and Chris Raine, while from Lamphey there was Andrew Skeels, Keith and Will Silcox, Rob Mathias and Craig Nutty, Alan, Gareth and Martyn Lewis and they also bumped into Narberth's Richard Howell whilst they were there.

The Sexton's added that it was a privilege to watch the game played in the right fashion and like a number of people in the county will never forget this epic series, whether they have been lucky enough to obtain tickets or simply watch the drama unfold on the box!
