SHE sunk the winning putt to claim the Caddies' Tournament and her prize was to play alongside television star James Nesbitt in the Europe v USA All Star Cup, held at The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, recently.

Becky Harries, star of Pembrokeshire College's Golf Academy, fought off competition from 20 young people to claim top spot and the chance to choose which celebrity she wanted to caddy for.

Her mother, Linda, said: "Ever since Becky realised she had been selected she always said that she wanted to caddy for James Nesbitt, so she was absolutely delighted when she won the caddies' competition."

Becky, who is from Haverfordwest, met a host of celebrities over the three-day event, including Catherine Zeta Jones, Michael Douglas, and singer Robbie Williams. But the 17-year-old was more than happy with her choice of golfer.

"I had a fantastic time," said Becky. "James Nesbitt was really friendly and a pleasure to caddy for. At one point I was even able to offer him some advice to help him out of a bunker - and the shot went straight into the hole."

Huge crowds watched as Europe won the celebrity competition, captained by golfing legend Colin Montgomerie.

"The whole experience was amazing," Becky said.

"But the highlight of the day was when the caddies were invited on to the green after Europe had been presented with the cup. It was a great end to a really memorable occasion."

Becky returns to Celtic Manor this weekend when she competes in the Faldo Series final.
