County rugby - Division Four (West) Pembroke 8 Llandybie 6

Pembroke made it two wins out of two matches in this section as they outlasted a big Llandybie pack to take their narrow victory at Crickmarren.

Small wonder that coach Ossie Boswell was delighted by his team's display, not least up front where his young charges refused to submit, with Sean Beynon coming into the front row between Richard Morris and skipper Richard Mason to play his heart out. Dai

Beynon supported alongside Owain Johns in the lineout department while the back row of veteran Neil Humphreys, Lee James and the outstanding Luke Hannaford caught the eye as they covered as if their lives depended upon it.

Even after Llandybie had scored the only points of a tense first period with a Robert Goodfellow penalty, which he followed with a similar kick after the break to establish a six-point advantage, the young Scarlets kept plugging away, even when they lost the influential Vyv James with suspected concussion.

They narrowed the gap to a single point when Darren Gilbert, on at scrum half for James, put Huw Purser over in the corner with the aid of a blind-side pass from No 8 Lee James.

Geraint Lewis was unable to land the difficult conversion but more than made amends with the end in sight as Pembroke's pack won a penalty and Lewis landed the three-pointer from a tricky angle.

Then it was down to keeping their heads and this the Scarlets did well so that they could make this bright start to their life in this new section.
