Division Four (west) Milford Haven 15 - Crymych 10

Milford Haven showed pack power aplenty in gaining a deserved home win against a Crymych side whose backs looked full of running but rarely had extended periods of possession to build a platform.

For the Mariners, Dean Matthews caught the eye with his first match at hooker in between Jonathan Madden and Darrell Jones, with Mark Wonnacott switching from the back row and acting as a ninth forward from his scrum half berth.

It was Matthews who opened the Mariners' account with a try following good work by Carl Allen, Mark Russell, Dean Aldred and the livewire Matthew Doncaster.

Ian Rusinek added the extra points and Milford led by 7-5 at the interval after Crymych centre Carwyn Jones completed a sharp break by fly half Gareth Davies with an unconverted corner try.

Scott Walters joined the fray after the break and used his wealth of experience to good effect as he ploughed through for an unconverted try.

The visitors managed to convert scraps of possession when they spread play wide and winger Dan Phillips crossed in the corner.

With a 12-10 lead Milford still needed to make sure of the three precious league points on offer and teenager Rusinek completed the scoring near the end with a neat drop goal from fully 35 metres.

That set the seal on the Mariners' success and left Crymych disappointed by their lack of cohesion up front.
