Konica Minolta Welsh Cup Fourth Round Pontypridd 50 - Narberth 0

Narberth battled hard against mighty Pontypridd, but were no match for a side currently in third place in the Welsh Principality Premiership table.

Ponty were already 31-0 ahead at the break after running in five tries without reply and it is to the Otters' credit that they didn't collapse in the second half as they tackled hard and restricted the home side to another three tries.

Leading the way for Pontypridd was right winger Chris Clayton who claimed a hat-trick of first half tries, racing clear for the first two scores and adding another after full back Morgan Stoddart steamed into the line to score. Left winger Daniel Hutchings then got his name on the scoresheet.

Ponty outside half Dai Flanagan converted the first, third and fourth scores and all Narberth had to show for their first-half toil was an improved performance at outside half by new recruit Wes Pooley and some solid tackling by the back row.

Steve Martin, Neil and Matthew Davies all tried to run limited possession as the bigger Ponty pack, well led by number eight and skipper Nathan Strong, took the lion's share of possession and added a try by prop Gerald Cox which Flanagan converted, as he did when Hutchings was put away for his second try.

Strong set the seal on a half century of Ponty points with an unconverted try to send them into the fifth round, leaving the Otters to return to division one action this Saturday at home to Newbridge and again in search of precious league points.

Narberth: Matthew Davies; Dan Shooter; Steve Martin; Neil Davies; Rob Irving; Was Pooley; Andrew Davies (Gareth Allerton); Martin Bowen; Gareth Jones; Fifitapuku Faletau; Emori Katelau (Capt); Chris James; Adrian Chiffi; Jack Mason (Rob James); Lewis Wood.

The Whitland versus Cross Keys match was postponed because Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn was waterlogged and will take place next Saturday, with the Borderers' league fixture against Caerphilly pushed back to later in the campaign.
