Dear Editor - The reports that a majority of people do not know what road signs mean is both frightening and unacceptable.

However, it would not be unreasonable to go further and suggest a majority on our roads do not know how to drive in a safe manner while in built-up areas.

Even if they could read speed signs it would be of no relevance as they are intent on breaking the limits.

Military Road is a prime example, others are similarly affected, although measures are supposedly waiting to be carried out. Let us hope there are no fatalities in the meantime.

Using a hand-held mobile while driving is illegal yet it is still happening. Some people think the law does not apply to them if it does not suit them.
