Dear Editor - At whose bequest or insistence and at whose expense, are existing directional signs and other signs being raised up, or replaced with entirely new signs, to what might be called motorway level all along our main and minor rural roads?
The newly-positioned signs are visually intrusive in our gentle landscape and essentially impractical from a motorist's, cyclist's or pedestrian's point of view, as they are all now positioned much too high to be read easily, being way above any natural sightlines. At a local level, here in St Davids, one has to ask, were any other authorities, particularly the planning authority - the National Park, the city council or any amenity societies, both national and local, consulted about the visual impact of the new signs? One looks to those responsible for a little bit more consideration and respect for our countryside and also our historic towns and villages. Is it too late to ask for a little bit of a rethink before any more damage is done?
