DEAR EDITOR, - My late mother, Olwen Williams (ne Banner) enlisted in the WRNS in Milford Haven in 1940.
There were initially approximately 50 WRNSs in the establishment; some local and living at home such as my mother and the remainder living away from their homes in the WRNS quarters, first in Hamilton Terrace and then in the Rath.
I now live in a small hamlet of 30 houses in coastal Queensland overlooking the Coral Sea.
We recently acquired new neighbours and the senior member of that houshold also joined the WRNS in Milford in 1940.
She was then an (underage!) recruit from Cardiff, Joan Mercer, who spent two years in quarters in Milford before transferring to Liverpool.
She recognises my mother from a photo of that time.
We would be very pleased to hear from anyone who has more information about the WRNS in Milford between 1940 to 1942.
