Dear Editor, - The Designed To Deliver document states that it aims to provide 'high quality, safe services, delivered as close to people's homes as possible'.

However, this is inconsistent with a later statement that 'average travel time to hospital would increase slightly overall'.

These statements contradict each other, leading to the view that that the proposals in the document are flawed.

The document also mentions that a general hospital should serve a catchment area consisting of 300,000 people, however it does not say how these figures are arrived at nor who has made these assumptions. It would lead me to assume that the authors of this document do not understand the geography of our area.

It is also interesting that some months ago Nick Ainger MP pledged, on the floor of the House of Commons, that there were no plans to downgrade services at Withybush Hospital, but the proposals he has recently declared that he is against are being put forward under his Labour administration.

I would very much hope that, as the final decision rests with Brian Gibbons, the Assembly Health Minister, Mr Ainger and the two current Labour Assembly members for Pembrokeshire will exert pressure on him to reject the proposals put forward in the document.

It is imperative for the safety and wellbeing of the people of Pembrokeshire that these proposals are rejected and I will fight, like many others to save our hospital.

Indeed, the relevant authorities should be putting forward proposals to upgrade our local health services in Pembrokeshire and not reduce them.

I would urge everyone in our county to attend public meetings and contact our elected representatives, as this will affect us all.
