The body of a 62-year-old man was found on rocks off The Parrog breakwater, Goodwick, in the early hours of Thursday.

A search was launched after David Cook-Welling, of Hill Rise, New Hill, Goodwick, was reported missing by his wife.

Police called on the coastguard for assistance and the Fishguard coastguard team, under sector manager Barry Scott, began a search of the coast path between Fishguard and Goodwick.

Police Inspector David Sweet said: "We have carried out our investigations but there do not appear to have been any suspicious circumstances.

"Mr Cook-Welling had gone out for his usual evening stroll on his regular route, and the alarm was raised after he did not return home.

"His body was found on rocks at the side of the breakwater. It could be that he had tripped and fallen from the path or had been taken ill or had a blackout. We do not know.

"We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a man walking on the breakwater around 8pm to contact Fishguard police station on 0845 3302000."

The death has been reported to HM Coroner.
