RNLI lifeguards will start patrolling the county’s beaches tomorrow (Saturday).

Marking the start of their third season in Pembrokeshire, lifeguard numbers have risen to 60, and in Tenby , they will be based at a state-of-the-art lifeguard tower at the South beach.

Said Pembrokeshire lifeguard supervisor, Chris Rigby: "Despite last summer’s poor weather, it was a busy and successful season for us and we are delighted to be back patrolling the beaches once again.

"As well as working closely with Pembrokeshire County Council, we are also working closely with RNLI lifeboat stations, the coastguard, and the local lifesaving clubs, in order to make Pembrokeshire’s coastline as safe as possible."

Pembrokeshire County Council’s cabinet member for leisure and tourism, Councillor Rob Lewis, said:

"Building on the strengths of the last two years, we are delighted to welcome back the RNLI lifeguards to our beaches.

"As was demonstrated last summer when a potentially serious incident was averted at Tenby’s South Beach by the quick thinking of the lifeguards, their presence ensures that the public can enjoy our award-winning 13 Blue Flag beaches in safety."
