Five people were rescued from a fishing boat in the early hours of Saturday morning.

At 10.50pm on Friday night the skipper of the Lady Jue made a mayday call to the coastguard as the vessel was taking on water and required assistance.

A helicopter was launched from RAF Chivenor but the boat was located by the Tenby RNLI lifeboat with the help of flares sent up by the boat’s passengers.

When the RNLI arrived, the passengers of the three week-old fishing boat, all wearing lifejackets, were standing on the tip of the vessel, as the rest of it was submerged.

They were taken aboard the Lifeboat and transferred to Tenby Lifeboat Station where they were given warm drinks. HM Coastguard who were also on scene to take details of the incident. Graham Warlow, Coastguard duty watch manager, told the Western Telegraph that the vessel remains partially afloat and a salvage operation is planned.

Bob James, the Tenby Lifeboat Press Officer said: “The quick turnout of the voluntary crew members last night undoubtedly saved their lives”.
