Haverfordwest is to get £500,000 to improve its walking, cycling and public transport facilities it was announced today (Monday).

Pembrokeshire County Council transport chiefs have attracted grant aid from the Welsh Assembly Government to encourage the use of sustainable transport in and around the county town.

Plans are currently being prepared on how exactly the capital funding grant will be spent.

It is likely to include a wide range of initiatives, including the possible introduction of new environmentally friendly buses for the town centre, together with new walking and cycling links for Haverfordwest.

Pembrokeshire’s bid was a joint regional initiative with Carmarthen, which is also getting £500,000.
