Tributes have flooded in for a much-loved mum-of-two, who married her partner of 22 years just days before she died of cancer.

Angela Lewis, of Neyland, married her long-term partner Martin on ward ten of Withybush Hospital, five days before she lost her battle with breast cancer last month.

The pair were surrounded by friends and family, as they made their vows.

Angela, who leaves a son, Craig, aged 20, and 14-year-old daughter Lana, was diagnosed with cancer in May 2009.

Her husband Martin said: “The news turned our lives upside down. We counted on the support of our families more than we had ever done. During her treatment she showed me and everyone else just what a tough, fantastically brave, determined, loving, caring woman she truly was.”

Teaching assistant Angela had a natural ability with children, both her own and pupils at the school where she worked.

Earlier this year Angela, who was studying for her NVQ level three when she became ill, took part in the Race for Life, to raise money for Cancer Research UK. She was admitted to hospital in June.

Angela and Martin married on ward ten, on August 12th. Friends, family and staff rallied round to organise decorations, outfits and the cake, with just 24 hours notice.

Martin said: “It was without doubt the most amazing day of my life. Thanks to the amazing efforts of our families and the staff of ward ten, we did ultimately have a wonderful wedding day, which couldn’t have been more special if we’d planned it for a year.”

He added: “I feel we packed a lot into those 22 years. The wedding sealed our time together perfectly.” Angela died just five days after their wedding, aged 42.

Martin said: “I was by her side listening to our video, holding her hand, talking to her about each of the photos that rolled by. Bridge Over Troubled Water was playing when Angie slipped away.”

He added: “I loved her with all my heart, simple as that. Knowing we had something special gives me a lot of comfort.

“She was a very easy girl to love.”
