Adventurer Rosie Swale Pope is splashing out on her dippiest challenge yet.

As 99.9 per cent of Pembrokeshire's population wraps up warm against the freezing temperatures, fearless Rosie is stripping off to brave the briny.

The mercury fell to minus 50 when the 64-year-old grandmother travelled through Siberia on her five-year run around the world.

So the prospect of a few sub-zero swims in Pembrokeshire's chilly waters holds no fears.

"I'm not sure of my plans this Christmas, so I thought I had better do my Boxing Day and New Year's Day swims a bit earlier, and raise money for a very good cause at the same time," said Rosie.

Between tomorrow (Friday) and Sunday, Rosie - towing her faithful Icebird cart - will be running from Tenby to Laugharne and back, stopping off to take to the water in Tenby,Saundersfoot, Wiseman's Bridge and Amroth en route.

"There's a serious reason behind my madness," said Rosie, who emerged smiling and barely shivering from a trial Tenby dip this morning (Thursday).

"I'm raising money for Maria Evans' wonderful Tinker's Hill Bird of Prey and Swan Rescue Centre at Amroth - imagine what it must be like to be a stranded or injured animal in this weather.

"And I've got tinsel on my bikini, so I hope I've helped to launch the Christmas spirit!"
