What a delight to see my home town of Tenby highlighted in the recent BBC Wales series Tenby 24/7.

It was great to see the characters from Tenby and South Pembrokeshire who were thrust into the spotlight. All those really hard working little businesses and individuals trying to make a decent living in the busy season hoping it will carry them through the year. It was very heartening to see the generosity of people and witness the charity and voluntary work carried out by so many.

But what struck me the most was the hard pressed and sometimes least adored public sector workers who try to maintain order and provide essential services in this bustling seaside town. Workers were ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the visitors and residents whilst balancing the conflicting demands that are placed on them.

They seemed to be the glue that binds the whole community together and it is now wicked of the government to propose the attacks on their pensions to pay for the bankers mistakes.

I hope that this series went some way to showing the public the valuable services that the public sector workers provide and will support them in their forthcoming struggle to oppose the changes to their pensions. These changes will force them to pay more, work longer to eventually receive less.
