Six Pembrokeshire businesses have been shortlisted as finalists for the 2013 Welsh Business Awards.

The awards, sponsored by the University of South Wales, are seen as one of the South Wales Chamber of Commerce’s flagship events.

Milford Haven’s Dragon LNG and the Pembrokeshire Lottery, which is based in Pembroke Dock, have been shortlisted in the community contribution/youth development category.

The Welsh rural/tourism achievement award finalists include both Ambleston’s Celtic Quest Coasteering and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, while Prines Gate Spring Water, of Narberth, has been shortlisted in the renewable energy/sustainability category.

Genpower, of Milford Haven, has been shortlisted for the most promising growth business award.

The awards will see 33 companies compete across 10 different categories. There will also be an award for Welsh Company of the Year which will be chosen from the category winners.

Last year, Celtic Quest Coasteering was crowned the overall winner of winners.

The company’s founder and managing director, Cleopatra Browne, said: “There were so many strong entries to last year’s awards and we were delighted to be chosen as the overall winner. Wales has lots of successful businesses and these prestigious awards recognise the talent and expertise that we have on our doorstep.

“There is certainly kudos that comes with being an award winner, and we have been proud to advertise the fact on our marketing materials. I have no doubt that that it has helped to attract new clients and secure additional bookings.”

Celebrating its 12th year, the awards dinner will take place at the Vale Resort, near Cardiff, on Thursday, February 27.

This year’s event will be theme around the Winter Olympics, which are currently being held at Sochi, Russia. The former Olympic skier turned TV presenter, adventurer and journalist, Graham Bell, will be the host.

Graham Morgan, director of the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, said: “As we see more and more confidence return to the marketplace, it’s important that we recognise the achievements of our leading businesses through established awards linked to the Chamber’s brand given the benefits of its international reach. The Chamber will actively support all entrants across all categories as they look to grow further.”
