A SUSPECTED Second World War mine has been discovered on a secluded Pembrokeshire beach.

The object was discovered on Sunday, March 17, by beady-eyed nine-year-old Kallianne Davies, from Hundleton.

She had been exploring Bullslaughter Bay, near Castlemartin Range, with her family when she came across what she described as “a big circle”.

After contacting the police, Kallianne’s dad Gareth posted photographs of the object on his Facebook page ‘Hidden Pembrokeshire’.

He said the rusty metal object measured around 4-feet from front to back, and he believes it had probably been buried for decades, only uncovered because of the recent bad weather.

Many people have suggested the object is a Mark XIX naval mine, used during the Second World War.

A spokesman for Milford Haven Coastguard said rangers from Castlemartin had been alerted about the object, but had declared it empty and safe. They added that rangers may work to remove it from the beach soon.

Bullslaughter Bay is out of bounds during the week due to its proximity to Castlemartin Firing Range.
