Carnival is back in town

First published in County News

THE streets of Neyland will play host to the town’s first carnival in seven years this weekend, thanks to the hard work of local organisers.

Starting in Honeyborough at 1pm on Saturday, July 12, the parade will make its way through the town, finishing at the Athletic Club grounds.

The carnival was last held in 2007, but organiser Malcolm Hawkings – secretary of Neyland RAOB – said this year’s event is set to be a roaring return to glory, with more support than ever .

The parade will consist of at least six floats, as well as street performers and walkers. Leading the procession will be Carnival Princess Cerys Evans, who was picked to represent the town at a ceremony at Neyland Athletic Club on Friday, together with attendants Opel Raynor and Ellie Mai Rhead.

Sponsorship has come from BDS construction, Milford Haven firm Austwel, Enviroventure, Rhyal Engineering, Neyland Golf Society, and Ryan Taylor.

Mayor of Neyland Simon Hancock said: "As Mayor I am very pleased to see the re-appearance of the Neyland Carnival after a lapse of several years and I hope the townspeople will enjoy the community events of the coming weeks."

This week also sees a number of music, fund-raising and sports fixtures take place as part of the 28th Brunel Festival

The Mayor's civic service also takes place on Sunday, July 13, at 2.30pm.
