A brave 11-year-old boy with a visual impairment has completed a three-mile paddle boarding challenge between Caldey Island and Tenby.

Asher Jenkin Jones - who was diagnosed with three brain tumours when he was 10 months old - has raised nearly £3,900 for three charities, including Tenby RNLI, from his solo journey on Saturday afternoon.

The youngster, from Nottingham, whose family have a holiday home in Tenby, took around two hours to make the crossing.

“Asher found it harder than he throught, but that made his achievement all the more significant,” said his dad, Tony Jenkin Jones, who was close by in the support boat.

“The RNLI looked after us really well, with the inshore lifeboat escorting us into Tenby harbour from the back of St Catherine’s Island. They are such a fantastic bunch of guys.”

Asher, who enjoys ski-ing, judo and guitar playing as well as paddle boarding was “all big smiles” as he paddled onto Tenby’s Mayor’s Slip, said his proud dad.

“It was quite an emotional moment,” he admitted.

Asher celebrated with a hot chocolate ahead of a family meal of pie and chips in Tenby Sailing Club.

He is raising funds for the RNLI, the RNIB and the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre, where he was treated.
