A HAVERFORDWEST community centre has benefitted from a huge cash injection courtesy of the Big Lottery after unexpected rain damage.

HaverHub, on Quay Street, has been awarded £10,000 by the Big Lottery’s Awards for All grant scheme, which will be used to renovate the storage sheds behind the former post office.

The shed will be re-wired and re-roofed with the grant, allowing HaverHub to host events there which will in turn raise money for the restoration of the post office itself.

HaverHub suffered a setback in November, when a silent disco at the sheds was brought to an abrupt end as the roof began to leak due to the heavy weather.

The disco was carried on at the Services Club next door, and HaverHub is now hoping to carry out repairs to the roof with help from the Big Lottery grant.

“We have got to get the roof sorted out before we can put anymore events in there,” said Gitti Coats, co-ordinator for HaverHub.

The community centre team is working hard at the repairs, but always appreciates volunteers who can join their roster.

“We now need recruits to join our HaverHelpers team because the sooner we can get things repaired, the sooner we can get things back up and running.”

Gitti added HaverHub might seem like it is in hibernation at the moment, but a lot of work on grant applications and booking events for the New Year is going on behind the scenes at the moment.

The Old Post Office’s renovation has so far seen it host events including an opening party with support from local musical talent and film and television actor Jerome Flynn, as well as the after-party for the town’s Halloween lantern parade.
