Haverfordwest shoppers are being warned of a card skimming scam at a cash machine in the town centre.

The Nationwide building society has confirmed that their cash machine next to Savers on Riverside had been fitted with a skimming device last month.

A spokesman, said: "A small number of people have been affected by skimming at one of our cash machines (ATMs) in Haverfordwest. Any customers who feel they may have been the victim of fraud should report it to their local bank or building society branch. Where Nationwide customers have been the innocent victims of fraudulent activity we will fully refund them."

Another Haverfordwest resident has raised concern about cash machines at a local supermarket after almost £400 was taken from her Barclays account.

Kate Turner, from Merlins Bridge, said: "I tried to withdraw a certain amount of money from Barclays bank in Haverfordwest, only to discover there was not as much money in my account as I had expected.

"I was horrified to discover that someone had managed to get all my card details and pin number and had withdrawn two large amounts of money at two different locations in England.

"I felt so shocked and angry, you feel like you've been robbed and I want to let people know that this is happening. The only reason I suspect the supermarket is that the previous weekend I went to the cashpoint there and it took three goes to get the card into the machine."

The location of where Mrs Turner's card was copied has not yet been confirmed by Barclays.
