A PALLIATIVE care centre in St Davids is celebrating after being shortlisted for the Lloyds Community Fund Award.
Shalom House is one of four organisations in Pembrokeshire to be nominated for the scheme which provides much needed money to organisations working locally to support young people.
Shalom House opened its doors in 2007 after a decade of fundraising in Pembrokeshire led by Margaret Burnett MBE, the founder trustee.
Starting with day care one day a week, it has developed today into the palliative care unit offering day care Monday to Friday and in-patient, respite and end of life care, all week and all year round.
Shalom House administrator Sarah Burns said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the news. We were nominated by Margaret Sutton, a volunteer from our local branch and if we win we are going to buy a motorised scooter for our outdoor group. We hope that people will get behind us in the public vote which opens in mid September.”
The two Pembrokeshire organisations receiving the highest number of votes will receive £3,000 each, while the other two will be given £300 as a goodwill gesture for their participation.
