SCHOOL children have played their part in preserving the past with the burying of a time capsule at Pembroke Power Station along with staff and local MP Simon Hart.

The Pyramid Club at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Pembroke Dock helped decide the contents of the capsule which includes a host of items such as station memorabilia, a photograph of the current power station team, a mobile phone, RWE work overalls and staff newspapers.

Pembroke Power Station manager Andrew Morgan said: “The installation of this time capsule marks a celebration of our past achievements. At this juncture we look forward to the future and our continued success.”

The items have been collected at various stages in the power station’s two year history, forming a timeline of what has so far taken place at Pembroke Power Station. The time capsule will be opened on the last day of generation.

Simon Hart said: “Innovation and tradition have combined to create something that all involved can celebrate. It will be interesting to see what the energy world looks like on the last day of generation from this site.”

Pembroke Power Station began full commercial operation in September 2012. It is a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT), and is capable of generating 2200MW – enough to power approximately 4 million homes.
