HAVERFORDWEST Business Circle hopes to help light up Haverfordwest with a Children’s Lantern Parade on November 29.
The parade shares the date with the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights.
At 5.15pm, around 30 school children from Barn Street, Mary Immaculate, Fenton and St Mark’s will parade from different points in the town - Swan Square, outside The Bristol Trader, St Mary’s Church and the Cenotaph – and meet up in Castle Square at around 5.30pm, to join the street pastors in singing carols.
Haverfordwest Business Circle is a new organisation, set up by independent local businesses who care passionately about Haverfordwest and want to be proactive in encouraging shoppers back into the county town, through a variety of activities and promotions.
“The Circle is trying its hardest to rejuvenate Haverfordwest, and this Lantern Parade is a lovely idea,” said the group’s vice chairman, Brett Kilner. “Hopefully it will attract even more people in to the town. We want to create a bit of a buzz about Haverfordwest, bring in a bit of colour and fun and create more Christmas cheer. We’re a new group but we’re already getting quite a lot of excitement generated – and this is just the start!”
The Circle is already discussing possibilities for events next year, including an “antiques-style” market on Castle Square.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to the 4Cs initiative,” said Brett. “Without their help and donations for the lanterns this fantastic event would not be possible.”
