FISHGUARD and District Soroptimist Club held its annual general meeting at the Fishguard Bay Hotel on April 15.

Elin Evans reflected on her enjoyable year as president. Her chosen theme of “Food, Farming and Focussed Females” resulted in a range of interesting and informative talks. The recent open meeting with Deputy Police Commissioner Tim Burton was mentioned as a well supported event.

The past year has been full of activities including coastal walking for charity, seasonal beach cleaning,as well as supporting the Fishguard carnival, the Lions fun day, the Fishguard Show and the Autumn Food Festival.

Other highlights included volunteering at the Fishguard Music Festival and Gateway Club lunch, delivering meals on wheels, supporting local students prepare for interviews, Hen Galan and the month long International Women’s Day exhibition.

Treasurer Pam Morgan presented accounts for the year. Members were delighted to hear how many local groups had been supported through donations, including POINT, the Sea Cadets, Goodwick Brass Band, Paul Sartori, Macmillan nurses, PATCH, the Princes Trust, Fishguard New Year celebrations and the local girls hockey team.

Internationally, the soroptimists have supported would be entrepreneurs with the “Make a Loan, Make a Difference” initiative.

In-coming President Carole Evans thanked Elin for her “calm, eloquent and inspirational leadership” which would be a hard act to follow.

The new officers for the year were then installed.
