THE future of rail services between Fishguard and Carmarthen has been raised in the Assembly Chamber, thanks to local Assembly Member Paul Davies.

Mr Davies questioned the transport minister Edwina Hart on when a firm decision over the future of these services would be made.

He said: "The additional rail services between Fishguard and Carmarthen have been operating for nearly three years, and they are a vital lifeline for people in Pembrokeshire. I know that, as a government, you are now reviewing these services and I would ask you to look favourably at continuing these services.

"Could you therefore tell us when a statement will be made on the future of these services, so that rail users in Pembrokeshire can at least plan their future rail journeys?"

Edwina Hart said they were looking to make some announcements by September 2014.

Speaking after questions, Mr Davies added: "Doubt over the future of rail services from Fishguard to Carmarthen have been a cause for concern for many Pembrokeshire residents, and so I was pleased to question the minister on this issue.

"It’s now important that the Welsh Government makes a firm decision so that rail users can plan their rail journeys in the future and I hope that the Minister looks favourably on these services and rolls them out on a permanent basis.”
