A FESTIVE fair at Sir Thomas Picton School raised more than £2,000 on Thursday (December 5).

Pupils set up shop in the main hall, selling everything from hand-painted gifts and driftwood ornaments to Christmas decorations and printed T-shirts.

Parents, friends and local businesses also got involved, selling jewellery, personalised ceramics, crafts and postcards.

There was a raffle, a silent auction, and younger children got the chance to visit Santa’s grotto.

A total of £2,400 was raised for the home school association which fundraises to pay for minibuses and makes donations to school projects.

Young artists also demonstrated their artistic flair at an exhibition called 'Showing Off' in the school’s gallery.

Students from year 10, 11, 12 and 13, and three of the school’s teachers, displayed some of their best pieces.

Art teacher Mr Phillips said it was important for students to show off their work, and see their teachers as "real artists".
