A HAVERFORDWEST-based agency, helping youngsters overcome drug or alcohol related problems, has teamed up with Anna’s Welsh Zoo to reward service users for their efforts to change their lives.

Drugaid’s ‘Choices’ service provides support, information and advocacy to young people up to the age of 18 who are vulnerable and marginalised as the result of their own - or someone else's - drug and / or alcohol misuse.

Anna’s Welsh Zoo is providing free, “hands-on” experiences to the agency, which will offer the trips to clients who reach their care plan goals.

The first youngster to be offered the reward has chosen to have the experience of getting an up-close look at the Wildlife Park’s Rhinos.

“The Zoo is working with us to support young people in the community,” said Mark Lewis, Pembrokeshire Young Persons Caseworker for Choices. “When young people access the service, we will meet them wherever they feel able to talk to us. That could be at home, at school, in a youth centre or in a cafe. We try to make it as easy as possible for people to access support. We can see young people about their own drug or alcohol issues, or their parents’ issues, and we can also see parents whose children are having problems.”
